The appointment was confirmed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Bronwyn Bishop and the Deputy Speaker and Queensland MP Bruce Scott.
Ms Landry will initially be rostered to ‘chair’ duties in parliament’s Federation Chamber which presides over debate on legislation and additional daily business spilled over from the House of Representatives Chamber in Canberra.
“It is both a great honour and a personal milestone to be asked by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to join the Speaker’s panel of the Australian parliament,” Ms Landry said.
“It is an important role and I look forward to being rostered on to chair the Federation Chamber.”
Ms Landry delivered her maiden speech in Parliament only 14 months ago.
Over time, members of the Speaker’s panel generally move on from chairing the Federation Chamber to filling in roles as Acting Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives main chamber during the hours when the Speaker or Deputy Speaker are not present.
