$1.3 Million Amenities Upgrade for Kele Park

Leader of the Nationals, David Littleproud, and Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry MP, are pleased to announce a $1.3 million election commitment to build new change rooms and amenities at Rockhampton’s Brothers Australian Football Club in Kele Park.

Mr Littleproud said regional sport is suffering under Labor, with critical funding stripped from rural and regional communities.

“Labor’s neglect of regional Australia is on full display in places like Kele Park,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Community clubs like the Brothers Kangaroos are the backbone of regional towns, yet they’re being forgotten.

“Women deserve safe and accessible sporting facilities. Instead, under Labor, funding for regional sport has been slashed.

“An elected Coalition Government will reverse these cuts and put funding back where it belongs – in regional communities. We will ensure local clubs don’t just survive but thrive.”

Ms Landry said regional sporting groups are the heart of local communities, but they are being left behind.

“Regional sporting clubs bring people together, foster young talent and keep communities strong. But right now, too many of these facilities are outdated and inadequate. Kele Park is a prime example of this neglect,” Ms Landry said.

“It is unacceptable that women and girls playing at Kele Park have no suitable change rooms.

They are forced to walk 250 metres to facilities that are not fit for purpose or share with male players. This is 2025 – we need to do better.”

“I met with the club executives, and they made it clear, new facilities are urgently needed. That’s why I’m proud to commit $1.3 million to build change rooms that are accessible for all players, especially women and girls.”

Kele Park is a vital sporting hub for the region, used by 13 AFL teams in the Brothers Club, Rockhampton Wolverines Gridiron, Rockhampton Softball, Frenchville Sports Club, Brothers Cricket, AFL Capricornia, Gold Coast Suns for training, Q Schools Cup, Capricornia

Representative School Sports Trials, and the Queensland Government.

The LNP is committed to standing up for regional sport and delivering the funding local communities need to grow and prosper.
