Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has secured a $1.5 million commitment to support Stage 1 of the Clermont Senior Living Project, delivering a much-needed boost for the local community and ensuring seniors in Clermont can access quality care and independent living options close to home.
“When Labor turned its back on Clermont seniors, I stepped in,” Ms Landry said.
“An elected LNP Government will deliver this $1.5 million to kickstart the project and give our seniors the care and independence they deserve, right here in Clermont.”
Stage 1 of the project will deliver critical early works to begin the transformation of seniors’ care in the region.
“With over 25 per cent of Clermont’s population aged over 60, the need is urgent,” Ms Landry said.
“Right now, our seniors are being forced to leave the community they built. To leave their homes and their families just to access basic aged care. That’s not good enough.”
The Clermont Senior Living facility would see an upgrade to the existing 20-bed facility, as well as creating 12 independent living units with 24-hour onsite management.
Ms Landry met with the Clermont Senior Living Committee earlier this year and vowed to fight alongside them for this essential project.
“By 2036, Clermont will be short 187 aged care places. We can’t wait for Labor to realise the crisis, we need action now,” she said.
“The wealth of this nation is built on towns like Clermont. Supporting our seniors means supporting the very people who helped build regional Australia. I will never stop fighting for them.”
