$317,000 for Safer Communities in Capricornia

An elected Dutton LNP Government will provide $317,000 from a revitalised Safer Communities Fund (SCF) to install CCTV cameras in Sarina and Moranbah.

Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry said this funding would help ensure people in the Sarina and Moranbah communities feel safe as they go about their daily lives.

“This funding is a direct response to the concerns raised by our community. I’ve heard firsthand from Capricornia residents that safety is a priority, and we’re responding with practical measures to help make public spaces safer for everyone,” Ms Landry said.

“Mackay Regional Council and Isaac Regional Council will share in $317,000 to install CCTV cameras which will ensure local communities can feel safer from violence, harassment and anti-social behaviour.”

Locations which will benefit from funding are

  • Sarina Town Centre – $100,000
  • Sarina Field of Dreams – $75,000
  • Sarina Neighbourhood Centre – $12,000
  • Moranbah Town Centre – $50,000
  • Regional community facilities across Isaac Regional Council – $80,000

Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, Senator James Paterson said under a Dutton LNP Government, the Capricornia community will be stronger, more secure, and better supported to tackle crime.

“Getting Australia Back on Track means keeping Australia safe – safe for families, safe for businesses, and safe for communities,” Senator Paterson said.

“Projects delivered under the Safer Communities Fund will help protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems and security lighting.”

The revitalised SCF will build on the programme established by the previous LNP Government, delivering grant funding to councils, schools, and local organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance security around community spaces, and promote social cohesion.

This commitment is part of the LNP plan to strengthen our local communities and get our country back on track.
