More than 30 rising stars from Capricornia are one step closer to achieving their sporting dreams thanks to nearly $20,000 in funding through the Australian Government’s Local Sporting Champions program.
Today, Michelle Landry MP proudly announced that 32 young athletes from across the region will receive up to $750 each to help them compete at state, national, or international championships.
“This funding is about backing our young talent and making sure cost isn’t the reason they miss out,” Ms Landry said.
“Sporting dreams should be determined by hard work and talent, not by a family’s ability to pay for travel, uniforms or accommodation.”
The Local Sporting Champions program supports athletes, coaches and officials aged 12 to 18 with financial assistance so they can focus on training, competing and representing their community with pride.
“Capricornia has a proud history of producing world-class athletes and we want that legacy to continue,” Ms Landry said.
“This program is an investment in the next generation of sporting greats. Whether it’s on the field, in the pool, or on the track, these kids are out there giving it their all and they deserve our full support.”
Local recipients are heading off to compete in a wide range of sports including basketball, tenpin bowling, softball, hockey, surf life saving, netball, swimming, water skiing, touch football and rugby league.
