Labor’s Budget has left Capricornia high and dry, with nothing but more cuts and broken promises for our communities.
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has slammed the Labor Government for gutting vital regional programs while pouring millions into Canberra’s bureaucracy.
“This Budget proves once again that Labor takes regional Australia for granted. Despite our communities driving the nation’s wealth, we’re getting nothing in return, just cuts, cuts, and more cuts.”
Labor has scrapped funding for essential programs like the Stronger Communities Program, Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, Growing Regions Program and Regional Precincts and Partnership Program, all critical for building up regional Australia.
“These programs have delivered real benefits like upgraded roads, better community infrastructure and stronger local economies. But Labor would rather fund 41,000 new public servants in Canberra than invest in the regions that keep this country moving.”
The Budget also fails to fund a single extra childcare place in Capricornia and offers nothing to fix our roads, not even to fill a pothole.
“After three years in power, Labor is spending less than 1 per cent of their infrastructure announcements in 2025-26. Regional Australians are not only suffering from these brutal cuts, but we’re also being crushed by Labor’s cost-of-living crisis.
“Labor ripped the guts out of Bruce Highway funding and now, with an election looming, they’re trying to bribe voters with a short-term cash splash that doesn’t even cover what they cut.
“Their so-called $150 energy rebate is an insult. Since Labor came to power, energy bills have soared by up to $1300. Their reckless renewables-only policy sends power prices through the roof.
“And their 70 cents a day election bribe? It won’t even start until next year. It’s nothing but a cynical trick from a Labor Government that can’t balance the books and refuses to deliver for regional Australia.
“Capricornia deserves real investment, not empty promises and cheap tricks. Labor’s Budget is a disaster for the regions, and we won’t forget it.”
