Michelle Landry Federal Member for Capricornia and Ken O Dowd Federal Member for Flynn have expressed their shock at the explosion at the Callide Power Station just before 2pm.
Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said “If you know someone who is affected by power outages, please make sure you lend a hand. Now is the time to come together and rally around our communities. We need to look out for our family, neighbours and friends.”
All persons have been evacuated from the site and according to Energex about 375,000 homes and business have been affected. Power is slowly being restored.
Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said “I join with my colleague Ken O’ Dowd in expressing my gratitude that all who work at the Callide Power Station are safe. Fire crews and emergency workers must be allowed to do their work and we can only hope that power is restored soon. Please only phone your provider in an absolute emergency.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the workers of the Callide Power Station in what must have been a traumatising event. Many of my constituents are employed at the power station and I am glad to hear reports that all workers are safe.” Mr O’ Dowd said
Ms Landry said “This is a time where we need to be patient and think of those affected and be thankful because it could have been much worse.”
