The Capricornia region is proudly represented in the Australia Day 2026 Honours List, with three outstanding locals recognised for their exceptional service and contribution to our community and nation.
These honours reflect the depth of talent, leadership and generosity that exists right across Central Queensland, and highlight why Capricornia continues to be such a strong and vibrant region.
Professor John Rolfe AM, of Rockyview, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to regional economic development as an economist and author. Professor Rolfe’s work has shaped policy, strengthened regional economies, and contributed to a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing rural and regional Australia. His research and leadership have had a lasting impact well beyond Capricornia.
Mr Rodney Green OAM, from Frenchville, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community of Rockhampton. Mr Green’s dedication to local organisations and community initiatives has made a meaningful difference to countless lives. His long-standing commitment to service embodies the very best of community spirit.
Mr Lyle Baker ACM, of Rockhampton City, has been awarded the Australian Corrections Medal (ACM) in recognition of his distinguished service within corrective services and for preserving the history of the Capricornia Correctional Centre.
The Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry MP, said, “These medal recipients and the many honourees before them are a tangible asset to our community. Their contributions help drive Capricornia forward, strengthen our institutions, and inspire future generations to give back.”
“Australia Day provides an important opportunity to recognise individuals who quietly and consistently serve others, while also bringing communities and cultures together. It is a day to reflect on our shared values, celebrate our diversity, and acknowledge the collective effort that makes Australia the nation it is today,” Mrs Landry added.
