Local councils across Capricornia will be able to set their own priorities to deliver more community infrastructure and better roads, with $1 billion in partnership funding from a Dutton Littleproud-led Coalition Government.
The Coalition is committed to getting Australia back on track and re-establishing a genuine partnership with local government by revamping a successful program, which was cut by the Albanese Government.
“When Labor cut the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, they deprived local governments of the vital support they needed to improve infrastructure and keep their roads up to scratch,” Michelle Landry MP said.
“Our revitalised program will continue the essential work of supporting local councils, creating jobs, and strengthening the resilience of our communities.
“The Coalition is committed to building strong, resilient communities, and we know that working with the level of government closest to the people achieves efficient and effective results.
“We want to partner with local councils to deliver the best roads and community infrastructure that makes Capricornia the best place to live.
Michelle Landry praised the work of Rockhampton Regional Council, Livingstone Shire Council, Isaac Regional Shire Council, Mackay Regional Council and Whitsunday Regional Council in delivering vital community infrastructure under the Coalition’s program in the past.
“We have seen this critically important program build projects such as Victoria Parade upgrade in Rockhampton and Collinsville’s waterpark, but Capricornia has seen the pipeline of projects dry up since Labor cut the program.
“Labor has neglected the region’s roads with potholes a serious vehicle repair concern for the community.
“This program will make a huge impact to address the backlog in road maintenance, contributing to safer local roads.
“Only the Coalition is willing to partner with local government to achieve the best outcomes for Capricornia while keeping costs down for ratepayers and getting Australia back on track.”
