Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, is calling for the 2026-27 Federal Budget to deliver practical cost-of-living relief and targeted investment in the roads, infrastructure and industries that keep Central Queensland strong.
“People in Capricornia are still under pressure. Power bills, groceries, fuel and insurance all keep going up, and this Budget needs to give families and small businesses real relief,” Ms Landry said.
“Regional communities need affordable energy, support for small business and investment in the infrastructure that keeps local economies going. That’s what I’ll be fighting for in this Budget.”
Ms Landry said Capricornia’s roads remain a top priority ahead of the Budget, with major freight and commuter routes needing continued federal support to improve safety, resilience and efficiency.
“We need more investment in the Bruce Highway, Beef Roads and the local road links our communities rely on every day. These roads matter for safety, freight and jobs,” Ms Landry said.
“The Rockhampton Ring Road will make a real difference, but we also need the surrounding connections funded properly so the whole region benefits.”
Ms Landry said the Budget should also restore confidence in regional Australia by backing local councils and community organisations with strong, targeted funding programs.
“Regional funding programs deliver real results, and I want to see that practical support back so local communities can get on with the job,” Ms Landry said.
Ms Landry said Capricornia also needs Budget support for projects that expand the region’s manufacturing, freight and export capability.
“The Rockhampton Airport Bay 7 expansion and freight hub would back local jobs, strengthen exports and open up more opportunities for Central Queensland,” Ms Landry said.
“Capricornia contributes so much to the national economy, and we deserve to see that recognised with strong investment in the regions.”
“I’ll keep fighting to make sure Capricornia gets its fair share and our communities have the support they need to grow and create jobs,” Ms Landry said.
