The 48th Parliament of Australia officially commenced in Canberra today, with Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, sworn in to continue representing her community.
Ms Landry said she will continue to stand up for the hardworking Australians who deserve a government that supports them, not works against them.
“As the 48th Parliament begins, the stakes for our nation, and especially for Capricornia, couldn’t be higher,” Ms Landry said.
“Labor has already shown its priorities by planning to increase taxes during a cost-of-living crisis and quietly slashing NDIS travel claims for allied health professionals who serve rural and remote communities.”
Ms Landry said her focus remains firmly on fighting for better outcomes in regional infrastructure, health care and housing.
“We know what to expect from Labor; cuts to regional road upgrades, delays in vital infrastructure and no real plan to address the housing crisis,” Ms Landry said.
“Just recently, I visited Moo & Coo, a local not-for-profit supporting the homeless and the situation is heartbreaking. We’re 460,000 homes short across the country. That’s simply not good enough.”
Ms Landry pointed to past wins for the region, including securing funding for the Rockhampton Ring Road and saving $14 million in funding for safety upgrades at the dangerous Phillips Creek Bridge, projects that Labor tried to walk away from.
“Whether it’s standing up for constituents who need help, improving the services our families rely on, or fighting for the infrastructure that brings jobs to our communities, I will fight to ensure Capricornia gets its fair share,” she said.
As the 48th Parliament gets underway, Ms Landry says she will remain laser-focused on delivering results for her region.
“Capricornia is full of potential, and I will work every single day to ensure that potential is realised.”
