Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, is thrilled to see Rockhampton Airport officially open the Airport Screening Infrastructure Upgrade and Terminal Redevelopment.
The Rockhampton Airport received a number of funding packages through the Coalition Government to assist with upgrading security and terminal infrastructure.
Michelle Landry, Federal Member for Capricornia, said she is proud to have secured $44.51 million for a number of projects at Rockhampton Airport.
“I am pleased to see that Rockhampton Airport has officially marked the completion of upgrades to the terminal.
“The airport is the gateway to Central Queensland. Over the years, there has been a steady increase of passengers, which has seen the need for better infrastructure to be implemented.” Ms Landry said.
Projects at Rockhampton Airport Michelle Landry has secured funding for are:
- $5 million – Rockhampton Airport Pavement Upgrade Project
- $4.31 million – Security upgrades (installation of state-of-the-art body scanners and baggage screening equipment)
- $10.2 million – Infrastructure upgrades
- $25 million – Rockhampton Aviation Repair and Overhaul Facility
- $30 million – NAIF loan for Rockhampton Aviation Repair and Overhaul Facility
The work undertaken through funding provided has ensured that locals remain in jobs and the economy is supported, particularly as the region navigated its way out of Covid.
Sitting in the heart of Queensland’s resource and agriculture areas, Rockhampton has untapped potential for becoming an export base.
“Prior to the election, I committed $10 million for further upgrades to the airport, through the expansion of the apron.
“This investment would ensure that Rockhampton Airport would keep pace with the region’s growth trajectory,” Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said.
The construction of Bay 7 will incentivise airlines to increase commercial flights, as well as provide more bargaining power to attract other airlines and open new routes.
Additionally, it will support the military operations and emergency response capabilities.
“Continuing to upgrade the airport will guarantee the Rockhampton region capitalises on major developments across the resource and agricultural sectors and cements itself as the as the gateway to the Galilee Basin,” Ms Landry said.
