Capricornia is set to see a stronger, safer future under a Coalition government, with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton committing $7.5 million in additional funding to Crime Stoppers.
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, said this investment is a game-changer in the fight against crime.
“Crime Stoppers is a vital tool in solving illegal activity. Last year alone, information provided to Crime Stoppers led to 4,000 arrests and 10,000 charges,” Ms Landry said.
“By guaranteeing anonymity, the service encourages people to come forward, helping stop crime in its tracks.”
Ms Landry highlighted the devastating toll of crime under the former state Labor government.
“Capricornia has endured years of rising crime and insecurity, with individuals and small businesses bearing the brunt. One local business, Ram’s G-Elec Automotive, suffered $150,000 in damage from multiple attacks in just one month last year. Stories like these are far too common,” she said.
The Coalition’s funding boost will allow Crime Stoppers to expand its operations and better support law enforcement across Australia.
“This is about restoring safety and confidence in our communities. Labor has failed to take crime seriously, allowing anti-social behaviour to spiral out of control, just as we saw under their state counterparts.”
Michelle Landry MP praised the state LNP government’s tough-on-crime measures, such as the landmark Adult Crime, Adult Time laws, and committed to delivering a united approach to tackling crime.
“With a Coalition government working alongside state LNP counterparts, we’ll take decisive action to end the lawlessness that threatens our communities. We’re committed to making Capricornia, and all of Australia, safer.”
