CQ LNP Urge Election as Aussie Living Standards Plummet

Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry and Senator for Queensland Matt Canavan are calling for the Albanese Labor Government to “bring on the election”, as the PM fails to front up to his economic mismanagement that has seen Australians’ standard of living plummet.

While most advanced economies are rebounding post-pandemic, real gross household disposable incomes in Australia have dropped by 8% since the 2022 Federal election, according to the OECD.

Real gross household disposable income is an important measure of the standard of living and adjusts take-home wages for the inflationary environment and direct taxes.

Since March 2022, real gross household disposable incomes have risen by 3.1% in the USA, 8.9% in Spain and 9.6% in Hungary. Australia is becoming an economic outlier, falling behind countries in even Eastern Europe.

Ms Landry is calling for the Albanese Labor Government to front up to their economic mismanagement and call an election to let Australians have their say.

“Labor don’t know how to run an economy, and its hurting Australians,” Ms Landry said.

“The standard of living for Australians has dropped nearly 10% since Labor came to power.

“This isn’t just a number, this is Central Queenslanders struggling to put food on their table, struggling to fuel up their cars and keep their lights on.

“We’re calling on Labor to bring on the election and let Australians have their say on Labor’s world-worst economic track record.”

Senator Canavan says the PM has set a world record in bad economic management, dragging Australians’ standard of living back to 2011 levels.

“While the last three years of Labor have been dark days for Australians, Albanese has set one record, overseeing the sharpest drop in living standards in Australia’s recorded economic history,” Senator Canavan said.

“Living standards for Australians have dropped more than any other developed nation in the world, and real household incomes have gone back to 2011 levels.

“The National Accounts data released this morning is also not breaking news for Aussies, with productivity under Labor continuing to fall, down 5.7% since the 2022 Federal election, and household living costs continuing to rise.

“Australians are worse off because Labor don’t know how to run an economy. Let’s bring on the election and let Australians decide their own future.”
