Crime, Health & Cost of Living Statistics a Cause for Alarm

The Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry and LNP candidate for Keppel, Nigel Hutton has expressed deep concern over alarming cost of living, crime and health statistics that are impacting locals in Central Queensland.

Ms Landry said under the watch of the state Labor Government, the community has been let down with cost of living spiralling out of control, crime at an all-time high, health services crumbling and local children paying the price for understaffed schools.

“Every day, my office is contacted by frustrated constituents who are facing difficulty finding affordable housing, adequate health services, struggling to pay their electricity bill or are frightened in their own homes from the youth crime wave which has been hitting our region for far too long. The vast majority of the time, they have contacted their local state government representative who was unable to provide assistance and have come to my office for help.

“The statistics, along with constituents seeking help on state issues from the federal MP’s office, is a reflection of how the current sitting Members have underperformed and let our region down.

“It took enormous pressure from myself and the state LNP candidates to secure a PETCT machine for the major hospital in Central Queensland. Despite this, Labor’s hollow promise of a three year wait for this vital piece of medical equipment is another example of the contempt the Labor Party show for our region” Ms Landry said.

LNP candidate for Keppel, Nigel Hutton said the Keppel community deserves better than a Member who continually under delivers for the region.

“Our region has never been more worse off than it is now because of a Member who has time and time again not delivered for our region.

“It’s extremely concerning what our communities are facing because of a failed Labor Government. Those in Keppel are facing the highest increase in electricity prices in the nation. An astounding spike of 19.9 per cent for electricity. Almost a 50 per cent ramping at Rockhampton Hospital with over 2000 CQ locals waiting for elective surgery. An astonishing 271% increase in car thefts since 2015 with an 86 per cent increase in break and enters. Renting has never been more expensive, with renters paying 8.4 per cent more for a house.

“This places an enormous strain and financial burden on Keppel families. Urgent action must be taken. The communities within Keppel deserve better and in less than 100 days, my constituents will have the opportunity to vote for change and tell Labor their time is up,” Mr Hutton said.
