Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has slammed Labor for once again turning its back on regional Australia, calling out the Albanese Government and its Capricornia candidate for failing to commit a single cent in new funding for the region.
“Labor is all talk and photo ops, but when it comes to delivering for regional communities like Capricornia, they go missing every single time,” Ms Landry said.
“While I’ve already announced over $32 million in funding commitments for Capricornia, Labor has offered absolutely nothing. Not a dollar. Not a project. Not a plan.”
Ms Landry said her funding commitments target key community priorities and economic growth across the region.
“This includes major upgrades to Rockhampton Airport to drive economic diversification, vital support for local sporting clubs, upgrades to the Yeppoon RSL and Yeppoon Town Centre to support our CBD, and essential improvements to the Nebo Showgrounds, Gracemere Saleyards, and Collinsville beautification project, with more to come.”
“Meanwhile, Labor turns up to cut ribbons on projects they never funded, while slashing and delaying more than $30 billion in infrastructure projects nationally. They even scrapped critical regional programs like the Bridges Renewal Program and Roads of Strategic Importance; programs that helped build the backbone of communities like ours.”
Ms Landry said Labor only reinstated a fraction of Bruce Highway funding after years of pressure from her and her state LNP colleagues.
“It took three years of fighting just to get back less than what Labor ripped away in the first place. That’s not governing, that’s electioneering.”
“In contrast, I’ve delivered more than $7 billion in infrastructure and funding for community groups since first being elected. Capricornia deserves better than Labor’s empty promises and neglect. Only a strong LNP Government will deliver the real investments we need to grow and thrive.”
“Capricornia is the powerhouse of regional Australia and I’ll never stop fighting to make sure we get our fair share,” Ms Landry said.
