A new chapter in aged care for Central Queensland was officially opened today with the launch of Mercy Haven, a state-of-the-art $41 million aged care facility in Rockhampton.
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, secured $19.6 million in funding through the Rural, Regional and Other Special Needs Building Fund to help bring the $41 million Mercy Haven project from concept to reality.
“This facility is more than bricks and mortar; it’s a place of dignity, safety and care for our older Australians,” Ms Landry said.
“Rockhampton and the wider Capricornia region have long needed additional aged care capacity and I was determined to deliver funding that would ensure older residents can receive the care they deserve, close to home.”
Ms Landry said the project reflects the urgent need for aged care investment across regional Australia.
“Over the past two decades, the number of Australians aged over 85 has more than doubled. By 2066, up to a quarter of our population will be over 65, and with one in three older Australians living in regional or remote areas, it’s essential we continue to invest in facilities like Mercy Haven,” Ms Landry said.
“I want to thank Mercy Community for their unwavering commitment to providing high-quality care in Central Queensland. This facility sets a new standard for aged care in our region and is something our community can be extremely proud of.”
The $41 million Mercy Haven project was supported by both federal funding and investment from Mercy Community and is now officially open and welcoming residents.
