Hardworking Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry has committed $2.8 million in federal funding to deliver Stage 1 of the Nebo Showgrounds Masterplan in the Isaac region.
The first stage of the Nebo Showgrounds Masterplan includes primary infrastructure upgrades, construction of heavy vehicle access, general camping upgrades, and car parking.
Ms Landry said the Nebo Showgrounds are one of Isaac Regional Council’s most used recreational facilities and she is happy to support it with federal funding locked into the Budget.
“To say Nebo Showgrounds is essential to the Isaac Region is an understatement,” Ms Landry said.
“Nebo Showgrounds is home to Australia’s biggest one-day rodeo attracting 5,000 people from across regional Australia and it’s hired for more than 80 days of the year to cater for over 20,000 people to deliver an estimated local economy return of approximately $1.2 million.
“This investment in Nebo Showgrounds has the potential to attract a higher level of visitation from neighbouring regions and across the country.
“This commitment made by me, and the Liberal National Government is testament to our commitment and understanding of regional Australia.
“The Liberal National Government is delivering a strong economy and a stronger future. We are delivering cost of living relief now, a long-term economic plan that creates more jobs, record investments in essential services and stronger defence and national security.”
State Member for Burdekin, Dale Last said from the national events it holds like the Nebo Rodeo to its role in supporting the agricultural sector, communities in regional Australia are built on places like the Nebo Showgrounds.
“The upgrade of the Nebo Showgrounds is an important project for the residents of Nebo and the surrounding areas,” Mr Last said.
“I have been advocating for this project for quite some time on behalf of the Nebo community and on behalf of them, I would like to offer my thanks to Michelle Landry for delivering for the community once again.”
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the Nebo Showgrounds Masterplan committee in partnership with Isaac Regional Council had been advocating hard for this funding.
“We wholeheartedly welcome the $2.8 million investment locked in by the Federal Government today for stage 1 of the Nebo Showgrounds Masterplan this as it will futureproof our resource and agricultural communities,” Mayor Baker said.
“The only way for the showgrounds to reach its full potential and cater for new industry or events is to upgrade and expand this traditional facility into a modern design.
“We have ambitious plans for Nebo Showgrounds, and we are grateful to the Federal Government for supporting the projects that matter to our local communities and backing Isaac today.”
