Landry Secures Action for Weather Station Fault

The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that they are conducting a site visit to investigate and resolve the fault with the Rockhampton Airport Weather Station’s rain gauge.

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has been actively working with the Bureau to ensure this issue is rectified promptly.

“This is an issue I’ve been tackling head-on with the Bureau of Meteorology because accurate and up-to-date weather information is crucial for our region,” Ms Landry said.

“I’ve urged the Bureau to prioritise an urgent site visit and I’m pleased to see that action is now underway to fix the problem.”

The Bureau of Meteorology has reassured Ms Landry and the community that their weather forecasts and warnings are robust and not dependent on a single piece of equipment.

“The Bureau has assured me that their forecasts and warnings are supported by a combination of advanced systems, including satellites, automatic weather stations, radars and hydrological monitoring stations. These systems are monitored around the clock by their specialist staff to ensure the safety and preparedness of all regions,” Ms Landry said.

Community members with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Bureau of Meteorology’s Weather Connect team at 1300 754 389 (option 2) or via email at weatherquestions@bom.gov.au.
