Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has raised serious concerns about Mackay Hospital and Health Service’s decision not to renew the lease for the Clermont Doctor Surgery, putting the town at real risk of losing access to a permanent GP.
Ms Landry said this decision is a major blow for a community already facing significant pressure when it comes to accessing healthcare.
“Health services have been an enormous issue for Clermont for far too long,” Ms Landry said.
“The Clermont community has fought hard to keep doctors in town and losing another GP service is simply unacceptable. Communities like Clermont deserve consistent access to healthcare, not uncertainty about whether they’ll have a doctor next month.”
In response, Michelle Landry will work alongside ClermontCONNECT and work with the Member for Burdekin, Dale Last, and the Minister for Health to safeguard GP services for the town.
“I will be doing everything I can to make sure this community is not left behind. Clermont families should not be forced to travel long distances for basic medical care. I will fight to ensure this isn’t another setback for the town. “I’m calling on Mackay Hospital and Health Service to reconsider their decision to prevent further strain on an already struggling regional health system and support a solution that safeguards GP access for Clermont.”
