41 young athletes from across Capricornia are one step closer to achieving their sporting dreams, with $24,500 in funding delivered through the Australian Government’s Local Sporting Champions Program.
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, announced that successful recipients will each receive up to $750 to help cover the cost of travel, uniforms and accommodation when competing at state, national or international championships.
“This funding is about backing our young talent and making sure cost isn’t the reason they miss out,” Ms Landry said.
“Sporting dreams should be driven by dedication and talent, not by whether a family can afford the expenses that come with representing their community.”
The Local Sporting Champions Program provides financial assistance to athletes, coaches and officials aged 12 to 18, ensuring young competitors can focus on training and performing at their best.
“Capricornia has a proud sporting history, producing world-class athletes across many codes and this program helps secure that legacy for the future,” Ms Landry said.
“Whether it’s on the field, in the pool or on the track, these young athletes are giving it their all and deserve our full support.”
Local recipients this round are set to represent Capricornia in a wide range of sports, including hockey, gymnastics, swimming, rowing, volleyball, soccer, netball and football.
“I congratulate each of our Local Sporting Champions and wish them every success as they represent their teams, their families, and our community with pride,” Ms Landry said.
