Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has today been appointed as Chief Whip for The Nationals, making this her second time serving in this key leadership position. She also becomes only the second woman in the party’s history to hold the role, following in the footsteps of former Chief Whip Kay Hull.
Ms Landry said she was honoured to be asked to serve once again in a position that plays a vital role in the effective functioning of the House of Representatives.
“It’s a privilege to return as Chief Whip for The Nationals. This is a role of great responsibility and one I approach with the utmost respect and commitment,” Ms Landry said.
“I thank Nationals Leader, David Littleproud, for entrusting me with this opportunity to serve our party and support our team in Parliament.”
As Chief Whip, Ms Landry will be responsible for coordinating the National Party’s activities in the House of Representatives. This includes managing the legislative schedule, organising speakers for parliamentary debates, ensuring members are present for votes and maintaining discipline and communication across the party room.
“The Chief Whip is the engine room of parliamentary coordination and I look forward to working closely with my Nationals colleagues to ensure we remain a strong and united voice for regional Australia,” she said.
Ms Landry will also work in cooperation with the Speaker of the House, Clerks and her counterparts from other parties to help maintain order and efficiency in the chamber.
“As someone who proudly represents a regional electorate, I understand the importance of teamwork, reliability and clear communication. I’m eager to bring that same dedication to this role,” Ms Landry said.
With years of parliamentary experience and a deep commitment to her constituents in Capricornia, Ms Landry brings a steady hand and strong voice to the role of Chief Whip, ensuring The Nationals remain focused, accountable and effective in advocating for rural and regional communities.
