Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, attended the official opening of Rockhampton Multicap’s disability housing. The project, which received $950,000 in funding from the previous Coalition Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) in 2020, marks a significant investment in the region.
Ms Landry said she was thrilled when she secured the $950,000 in funding for this crucial project in 2020.
“The Building Better Regions Fund has delivered enormous community benefit for Capricornia. Today, I am so proud to see Rockhampton Multicap’s purpose-built housing for people with high-needs disabilities be officially opened.”
Multicap’s new state-of-the-art housing will deliver specialist, affordable and accessible housing for those living with disabilities.
“We know that the Rockhampton region has been severely lacking the appropriate housing for those living with complex medical issues. The new houses will offer a comfortable and supportive living environment which will provide residents the opportunity to live with more independence.”
Capricornia has seen numerous projects receive funding through the former Coalition Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, which have delivered the services and infrastructure critical to supporting growing regional and rural communities.
“Our wonderful region has benefitted enormously through BBRF and has seen projects like the Rockhampton Museum of Art, Rockhampton Zoo’s formal entrance, Collinsville’s CBD upgrades and Yeppoon’s Recycled Water Augmentation come off the drawing board and made a reality. These major projects have created jobs, driven economic growth and built stronger regional and rural communities for the future.
“Unfortunately, Labor’s vendetta for the regions has seen this funding program be abolished. It’s clear that creating strong and resilient regions is not a priority for the Labor Government,” Ms Landry said.
