Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has today welcomed the official opening of the new Phillips Creek Bridge on Saraji Road, marking a major milestone for road safety and freight efficiency in Central Queensland.
The completion of the long-awaited project delivers a safer, flood-resilient crossing between Dysart and Moranbah, ensuring year-round access for motorists, workers, and the region’s vital resources sector.
“This is a fantastic day for our community,” Ms Landry said.
“After years of fighting to secure and protect the $14.4 million in federal funding, I’m proud to see the Phillips Creek Bridge open and delivering the safety and reliability our region deserves.”
“The old bridge was narrow, prone to flooding, and the site of far too many serious accidents. This new bridge will save lives, reduce closures, and keep traffic moving.”
Ms Landry said the project is a major win for local industry and regional communities who rely on Saraji Road as a key freight route.
“Our mining and agricultural sectors depend on reliable infrastructure to get their products to market. When this road closed, it didn’t just inconvenience motorists it cost our economy millions.”
“This new bridge ensures freight can move efficiently and safely, supporting local jobs and strengthening our economy.”
Ms Landry acknowledged the role of all levels of government and local stakeholders in bringing the project to completion, including the Isaac Regional Council and industry partners.
“This project shows what can be achieved when all levels of government work together to deliver for regional Australia.”
“While there were delays along the way, today’s opening is proof that persistence pays off and that regional communities will always fight for the infrastructure they need.”
Ms Landry reaffirmed her commitment to continuing to advocate for better roads and infrastructure across Capricornia.
