Forty young athletes from across Capricornia have been named successful recipients in round 2 of the highly popular Local Sporting Champions Program, sharing in $24,500 to support their pursuit of sporting excellence.
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, today announced the successful applicants are each set to receive up to $750 to help cover the costs of competing at state, national and international events.
“We are backing our young talent and helping them overcome the rising costs of participating in high-level sporting events,” Ms Landry said.
“The Capricornia region has a proud history of producing world-class athletes across many different sporting codes. This program makes sure that every young competitor with the dedication and ability to succeed is given a fair shot.”
The Local Sporting Champions Program provides financial assistance to athletes, coaches and officials aged 12 to 18, helping to cover essential expenses such as travel, accommodation, uniforms and equipment.
“This funding ensures that sporting pathways remain open to everyone,” Ms Landry said.
“Dreams should be achieved through hard work, commitment and talent, not limited by whether a family can afford the substantial costs of representing their community.”
This round’s successful recipients will represent Capricornia in an impressive range of sports, including Pony Club, touch football, softball, gymnastics, rowing, boxing, motocross, netball and skating.

“Your success is a testament to your dedication and I wish you every success as you proudly represent your teams, your families and our community on the big stage.”
