MEDIA RELEASE

The Mobile Service Centre Blue Gum is continuing its travel through central Queensland.

Blue Gum is one of three trucks in the Mobile Service Centre fleet that is run by Services Australia. The other two trucks include Golden Wattle, which is currently travelling around New South Wales, and Desert Rose, which is travelling through South Australia and Victoria.

These trucks deliver easy access to essential government services such as Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support services and have assisted almost 160,000 customer since 2006.

The trucks have collectively travelled over 900,000 kilometres and visited more than 5,200 communities.

Minister for Government Services Stuart Robert highlighted how Blue Gum delivers tailored support and information to people in rural and regional communities.

‘Mobile Service Centres are a prime example of the Australian Government’s commitment to delivering the best services to all Australians, regardless of where they live,’ Minister Robert said.

‘These trucks are purpose-built to replicate a service centre, complete with the latest technology.

Blue Gum’s travel around regional Queensland during February will ensure communities can continue to access the services that they need in 2021.’

Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry talked about the truck’s continued movement across rural and regional Queensland.

Blue Gum resumed its travel around Queensland on 18 January 2021,’ Ms Landry said.

‘As it continues to travel through the region, it will continue providing a great deal of support for locals by offering face-to-face services such as help with Centrelink claims, Medicare registrations and other online services.’

‘You can still do most of your Centrelink and all of your Medicare business online.

‘The staff on board Blue Gum can help to support locals and make sure they’re confident in completing their business with these services online.

‘All services offered on Blue Gum will be offered with strict COVID-19 safety precautions in place,’ Ms Landry said
