Landry delivers Over $30,000 in Funding for 53 Capricornian Young Athletes

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, is delighted to announce 53 local young athletes across Capricornia have shared in $30,700 of funding through the Local Sporting Champions to support them in their pursuit of excellence in their chosen sport.

The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance to aspiring young athletes, coaches and officials between the ages of 12-18 attending eligible state, national or international sporting championships, with successful applicants receiving between $500 and $750.

Michelle Landry said the program is an important initiative for talented young sportspeople and their families.

“Local Sporting Champions helps aspiring young athletes from Capricornia participate in high-level competitions by covering costs like entry fees, uniforms, travel, equipment, and accommodation.

“Local Sporting Champions aims to eliminate barriers for children pursuing their big sporting dreams.

“Capricornia has a long and impressive track record of producing some of the world’s best athletes like Anna and Kerrie Meares, Kenrick Tucker, Jamie Dwyer and, Wendell Sailor and Reuben Cotter and programs such as the Local Sporting Champions help to foster the next generation of champions,” Ms Landry said.

Recipients of the Local Sporting Champions are participating in a broad range of sports including golf, swimming, football, soccer, rowing, BMX, basketball, water skiing, cricket, mountain biking, netball and karate.

“Congratulations to everyone representing our region, and I wish you and your teams the greatest success.”
